Contemporary gospel group founded in 1964, consisting of a rotating roster. From 1968 to 1974 the group sang back-up for Jimmy Dean on his road shows along with Elvis Presley from 1969-1971. See also Jake Hess & The Imperials (1964-66) and Terry Blackwood & The Imperials (00's). In September 2004, Armond Morales transferred ownership of "The Imperials" to the lineup at the time: son Jason Morales, Jeremie Hudson, Ian Owens and Shannon Smith. This version of the group released two albums on Lamon Records, The Imperials (2006) and Back to the Roots (2007), which is a collection of new versions of classic Imperials songs. Members included: Armond Morales, Jake Hess, Gary McSpadden, Sherrill Nielson, Henry Slaughter, Jim Murray, Joe Moscheo, Terry Blackwood, Roger Wiles, Greg Gordon, Sherman Andrus, Russ Taff, David Will, Paul Smith, Ron Hemby, Jimmie Lee Sloas, David Robertson, Jonathan Pierce, Pam Morales, Jeff Walker, Steve Ferguson, Steve Shapiro, and Barry Weeks.
