There is only one consciousness and everything is connected to this one and single source of consciousness.
The blade of grass, the solid rock, the water, fire, wind, the the animals, the beggar on the side walk, the president in the White House, the murderer and the lover. The man in the moon and the monkey in the tree. The good, the bad and the ugly are all a part of the singularity.
Everyone and everything plays an important role in the completion of the universe. All is an expression of the one divine, infinite and eternal soul.
We could compare the universe to a musical orchestra in which each one of us and everything can be compared to a member or an instrument of this orchestra. Each playing it's part to create this indescribable beautiful and flawless symphony that is called life. As Rumi said, we are not a drop in the ocean. We are the ocean in a drop. We are individually an intricate and indispensable part of the Oneness. We are the embodiment of all that is.
