Elvis' first LP for RCA Victor, "Elvis Presley", consisted of 5 unreleased Sun Studio masters and 7 new RCA tracks recorded between July 5, 1954 and January 30, 1956.
The album spent ten weeks at number one on the Billboard Top Pop Albums chart in 1956, the first Rock and Roll album ever to make it to the top of the charts, and the first million-selling album of that genre.
It was certified Gold on November 1, 1966 and Platinum on August 8, 2011 by the Recording Industry Association of America.
When RCA International decided to sell it in the UK through HMV, there was fear that the name Elvis Presley wouldn't ring a bell. To certify that the ings would be satisfactory, the album's title was changed to "Rock 'n' Roll" to attract the UK's youth.
The move worked wonders and it didn't hit the stores as "just another name for the same thing", as RCA changed a few tracks in the UK version. Most notably there was
"That's All Right", that never made its debut as a single in Europe and would be sold and heard for the first time in the UK.
