Citizens who had gathered at the capitol building were not happy with the show of force which they were met with in the form of armored riot police preventing entry. The common sentiment that morning was that the legislature had no legal stand to prevent citizens from entering the state building and attending the legislative session. The sentiment among the protesters was the state officials with support from the Salem police department were acting despotically.
