Elvis' first LP for RCA Victor consisted of 5 unreleased Sun Studio masters and 7 new RCA tracks recorded between July 5, 1954 and January 30, 1956.

The album spent ten weeks at number one on the Billboard Top Pop Albums chart in 1956, the first Rock and Roll album ever to make it to the top of the charts, and the first million-selling album of that genre.

It was certified Gold on November 1, 1966 and Platinum on August 8, 2011 by the Recording Industry Association of America.

On January 27, 1956 RCA released the single "Heartbreak Hotel / I Was the One", that would top the charts for 7 weeeks.

It united its force with the singles "I Want You, I Need You, I Love You / My Baby Left Me" (released May 4, 1956) and "Shake, Rattle And Roll / Lawdy, Miss Clawdy"

(released Augut 31, 1956) to skyrocket Elvis' sales.

All tracks in "Elvis Presley" were re-released as single, double and triple EPs until October 1956.

All tracks were also re-released as singles on August 31, 1956.

TRIVIA: The original 1956 UK release, called "Rock n' Roll" on HMV Catalog Number CLP 1093, has five different tracks.
