ACCEPTABLE IN THE EIGHTIES 20: MEGASTARS

Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching and research. Fair use is permitted by copyright statute.

It could be argued that the 1980s were the commercial peak for pop music as a medium with the attendant spin-offs and paraphernalia all combining at the same time: The average pop consumer could buy vinyl, cassettes and compact discs. There was the arrival and rise of the pop video format. Hollywood were still interested in making films starring pop stars. Plus there was the wide media attention from TV, magazines and newspapers. And then there were the concert tours. This was the age of the megastar, most notably the "Big Three" of Michael Jackson, Madonna and Prince. Not surprisingly these acts were big because they appealed to a wide audience and because they made the most of the varied media that surrounded pop in a way that hasn't quite been repeated since...

Featuring performances from Phil Collins, The Police, Michael Jackson, Tina Turner, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, Prince and the Revolution, David Bowie and Whitney Houston.
