What is Utopia? I asked myself this question and didn’t know exactly what it means.

So I asked smartass Google but had even more questions afterwards.

These are the best results:

“Utopia is a term for an imagined place where everything is perfect”

“A utopia (/juːˈtoʊpiə/ yoo-TOH-pee-ə) is an imagined community or society that possesses highly desirable or nearly perfect qualities for its citizens. An example is heaven.”

“For thousands of years human beings have dreamt of perfect worlds, worlds free of conflict, hunger and unhappiness. But can these worlds ever exist in reality?

In 1516 Sir Thomas More wrote the first 'Utopia'. He coined the word 'utopia' from the Greek ou-topos meaning 'no place' or 'nowhere'. But this was a pun - the almost identical Greek word eu-topos means a good place. So at the very heart of the word is a vital question: can a perfect world ever be realized?”

“The word utopia comes from the Greek words ou, meaning "no" or "not," and topos, meaning "place." Since its original conception, utopia has come to mean a place that we can only dream about, a true paradise. Dystopia, which is the direct opposite of utopia, is a term used to describe a utopian society in which things have gone wrong. Both utopias and dystopias share characteristics of science fiction and fantasy, and both are usually set in a future in which technology has been used to create perfect living conditions. However, once the setting of a utopian or dystopian novel has been established, the focus of the novel is usually not on the technology itself but rather on the psychology and emotions of the characters who live under such conditions.”

But what does Utopia mean to me? Or why did I call my track “Utopia”?

First of all, I never think too much about track-titles in general, I often ask friends how they feel when I play one of my tracks to them. From there I start to search for the right name. In this case I had a upwards spiral in mind. A feeling that increases. Maybe wistful and full of hope. A world that I would like to live in, so I came up with “Utopia”.
