Der Kuckuck ist ein Zugvogel. Er fliegt im Mai aus seinem afrikanischen Winterquartier zurück zu uns nach Europa. Im Herbst, wenn es ihm hier zu kalt wird, fliegt er wieder nach Afrika.
Das Kuckucksweibchen legt ihre Eier in fremde Vogelnester. Oft sehen Kuckuckseier ganz verschieden aus. So merken die fremden kleinen Vögel nicht, dass sie ein Kuckucksei ausbrüten.
Die fremden Eltern haben mit Kuckucksküken viel zu tun, weil die sehr schnell groß werden und viel Hunger haben. Das Kuckucksküken wirft die anderen Eier oder Vogelkinder einfach mit seinem Rücken aus dem Nest.
